The film setting for Hendrawna Sands in the BBC adaptation of Poldark, Holywell Bay is instantly recognisable with the twin peaks of Gull Rocks just offshore. It is a beautiful wide, soft sandy beach, with a small stream flowing into it from the village just behind the beach. There are huge, soft dunes to explore and two holy wells here, Trevornick Valley Well, situated on the land which is now owned by Holywell Bay Leisure Park and Holywell cave tucked under the southern cliffs of Kelsey Head. Do take care not to get cut off by the tide if you seek this out!
There are several lovey dog friendly pubs nearby, including the St Piran’s Inn and the Treguth inn near the beach and the lovely Smuggler’s Den nearby in Cubert.
