Dog friendly cottages by the beach in Cornwall

Here are some of our favourite (and very iconic) dog friendly cottages right on the beach in Cornwall

The Spyglass, Gorran Haven (pictured at top)

Just a stone’s throw from the sea with steps to dog friendly Gorran Haven beach and interiors to die for. The cottage was once part of a Napoleonic fort and sleeps four, with a supersize king bed and a twin room. Up to two medium size dogs allowed.

We have to ask at this point, as owners of the gentle giant Rosie, why do cottage owners have these odd rules on how big your dogs can be? Couldn’t one well-behaved giant , step in for two small dogs? Surely it’s the owner’s behaviour and how well they train and supervise their dogs, not the size that really matters when it comes to looking after your property.

The Island, Towan Beach, Newquay

We’ve included this retreat because it is possibly the most iconic beach retreat in Cornwall, being on the little island on dogfriendly Towan beach in Newquay, and being sort of dog friendly. We say, “sort of” because you are allowed one “toy” dog by prior arrangement. We can’t really comment on the size issue here because it may be a safety thing, but “toy”? Really? Do you mean a stuffed animal? Nevertheless, it is a stunning cottage, which sleeps up to six, and offers you the chance to wander over the bridge, down the steps to the beach, and then back up, where you can actually raise a flag as you enjoy dinner on the terrace overlooking the hoardes below.

Seaglass, Whitsand Bay

Little beach hut for two in South East Cornwall perched on Tregonhawke Cliff and surrounded by enclosed spacious gardens overlooking the mighty Whitsand Bay. There is a hot outdoor shower and a hot tub overlooking the sea.

Pentyak, Harlyn Bay

If you’re with a bigger group, perhaps planning a big celebration, this spectacular property overlooking dog friendly Harlyn Bay is worth a look. It has floor-to-ceiling, angled non-glare windows that drench the open plan ground floor in natural light, a sunken trampoline in the large landscaped garden and a custom-built tree house. Inside, there is a den and a wooden stair slide. Sleeps up to 14 guests. Pets are welcome, with Harlyn Bay on your doorstep, and Rick Stein’s dog-friendly Cornish Arms pub offering simple but really delicious food and drink just a walk over the fields

Arhans House, St Agnes

A little Hollywood glamour, nestled in the valley just above Trevaunance Cove, (dog friendly). Full height windows frame the fabulous view down to the sea and natural light bathes the whole space. A blend of contemporary artwork along with beautiful design makes this living and dining area cosy and inviting. The special extra to this house is a beautiful  entertainment pod on the lower decking, complete with wine cooler, large fridge plus a huge TV with Blu-Ray DVD player and a  woodburner and a big sofa. As well as the beach there is the fabulous dogfriendly Driftwood Spars pub nearby with wonderful food, its own brewery and some great entertainment.

The Sea Room, near Fowey

This little cottage is special because you can only access this little hideaway by the  footpath or by boat (you can park above the woodland footpath). It has floor to ceiling glass overlooking the water, it’s own private slipway and shingle beach, walk in wetroom style bathroom and beautiful interiors. Sleeps two and one dog.
