You can sleep on a mattress, enjoy hot and cold running water, a shower and facilities, a hob to cook on and a washing basin, and still enjoy the freedom to camp so that you wake up to the sun rising over a huge ocean panorama, in a remote and beautiful place in Cornwall that you have all to yourself.

You can choose to camp near to dog friendly beaches or walks and there is plenty of room and freedom for your dog as you travel.

We’ve been offered the luxurious motorhome Demelza this month at a discount. Normally she would be £200 for a weekend, but for the next two weeks you can book her for just £175 as a Dog Friendly Cornwall supporter, thanks to Heather Forster, a dog lover herself who supports our new directory.

Here are a few of our favourite places to stay in a dog friendly motorhome:

King Arthur’s Car Park, opposite The Old Post Office, Fore Street. Large level car park in centre of Tintagel town, easy access for large motorhomes. Reasonably secluded at far end of car park. Officially licensed for motorhomes to stay overnight. Public toilet block in the car park closes at 10pm. Be careful about taking dogs up to the castle, the climb is steep and the cliffs are very high.

Widemouth Bay

A layby next to the Budemeadows campsite on the A39. Budemeadows campsite is also recommended and allows dogs if you’d like to make use of the heated pool, laundry, bath, bar and other 5* facilities.

Levant Mine (near where Poldark was filmed)

The National Trust and Trevithick Trust own and run Levant mine, a working Cornish steam engine. Just above the site is a large level parking area with stunning views over the Cornish coast, engine houses and out towards Pendeen Watch lighthouse. Keep your dog on a lead when near cliffs.

The Lizard

The National Trust car park by the Lizard lighthouse. Toilet block open all night. Polpeor beach is dog friendly and Polpeor cafe is wonderful with huge, original freshly baked cakes and really good food, and views that are just unbeatable. Don’t let your dog off the lead near the cliffs however, especially if they have poor recall, the path here is right by the cliffs. There is a grassy area near the car park and fields where they can run free.
