As some of our followers will know, Dog Friendly Cornwall all started because of one rather big, silly Newfoundland called Rosie.
Rosie is the 60kg ‘baby girl’ belonging to Viki, who first began the Dog Friendly Cornwall blog back in 2015 when she found herself reviewing many restaurants, hotels and cottages as part of her work for Cornwall Today magazine. Rosie would often come along and those places which genuinely welcomed dogs were celebrated in the Dog Friendly Cornwall dogs to help other people looking to find wonderful places to stay, eat and visit in Cornwall which genuinely welcomed dogs.
After all, anyone who welcomes a 60kg pet bear as got to be pretty dog friendly.
We’re really delighted today to be celebrating Rosie’s 10th birthday. It is of course, a bittersweet birthday for a Newfoundland owner, as life expectancy for these gentle giants ranges from 10 to 12 years, but Rosie is pretty healthy and we are very grateful for all the wonderful years we have enjoyed with this beautiful girl and hopeful for more adventures to come.
Over the years Rosie has helped us to review beautiful mansions, such as Polpier House in Mevagissey — a place we only got to visit courtesy of Rosie accompanying us, because owner Amanda Hines is super dog friendly! She’s also flown to the Isles of Scilly on the Skybus and watched the dolphins play from the Scillonian III on the way home. Other adventures have seen her taking to the open road on a motorhome tour to places such as Hendra Holiday Park and staying at dog friendly places such as Cosawes Barton and The Valley near Truro, or accompanying us on wine tasting trips to Trevibben Mill vineyard near Padstow.
We’d like to thank everyone who welcomes and continues to welcome her through their doors.
Nowadays Rosie gets a bit of help in her duties visiting eateries, places to stay and attractions from her cousin Bingley the Bassett (cousin as in he is the dog of Viki’s sister Emma, who also works at Dog Friendly Cornwall). Bingley will be two in April and while he sometimes accompanies Rosie on walks, he can step in on longer walks, or hotter days, or when visiting beautiful places such as Lusty Glaze which involve lots of steps.
Together these two pups now have over 20,000 followers, a number which is doubling each year, so thank you too, to everyone who reads the blog and follows us on social media. Our mission is to find and share and celebrate all those wonderful places around the county which really, truly welcome dogs and their owners.
We’re looking forward to more dog friendly adventures to come and hope you’ll join us in wishing our big girl very happy 10th Birthday.
