Dollar Cove next to Church Cove, Gunwalloe gets its name from the silver dollars washed ashore from a shipwreck just north of the beach at Loe Bar in the 16th century. Most of the coins have now been retrieved and can be seen in Charlestown’s Shipwreck Museum and the wreck site is protected. Today this beach with golden sand interspersed by rocks is dog friendly all year round. There is a National Trust car park which also serves Church Cove which is adjacent and which has a dog ban in summer months.This beach is named because St Winwalloe Church is perched on the very edge of the beach, and you might recognise it from the BBC Poldark series where filming took place.Dog Friendly Lunch: In the summer there is a kiosk selling snacks and ice creams. The marvellous Halzephron Inn which is very dog friendly and which has a super reputation for lovely food is a short distance away. If you would like a walk, you can walk south over the coast path to nearby Poldhu Cove. This has a beach ban in the summer but the Poldhu Beach Cafe is dog friendly and is open 364 days of the year.
