It’s the season that dog beach bans are coming into force across the county but we do have some good news for owners on the Lizard and the west of Cornwall.

As we were finalising the pages of the forthcoming update of the Dog Friendly Cornwall Beach Guide, we were confused to find that a few of the regular summer haunts for dogs had suddenly been marked by Cornwall Council as dog ban zones on their official map.

So we queried it with them and they confirmed that there had been an error.

The beaches that are still allowing dogs over the summer period are:

Wherrytown to North Pier Newlyn

Longrock (from level crossing to Penzance harbour)

Kennack Sands East

Cadgwith East

A spokesman for Cornwall Council told Dog Friendly Cornwall: ‘There appears to be errors with the maps that have been displayed on our website and I am hoping these will be amended asap.’

On behalf of the dog owners and dogs of West Cornwall, we say: ‘Phew!’

Do let us know if there are any other dog beach bans you wish us to query and don’t forget, coming this May, a fully updated version of the Dog Friendly Cornwall Beach Guide which you can pre-order here.
